A grieving mom from New York has enlisted the help of state Senator Brian Foley to help bring awareness of teen drug abuse to the forefront of the government. Sen. Brian Foley is sponsoring a bill called ‘Denise’s Law’ designed to increase parental control when it comes to enrolling minor children in drug addiction treatment programs.

A recent study published in the Journal Science by Mount Sinai School of Medicine shows that chronic cocaine addiction can lead to a repression of a specific gene within the brain.
 
The gene, 9A, is responsible for producing an enzyme that plays a crucial part in switching our genes off and on. Studies show that decreased enzyme production in those who are addicted to cocaine, actually leads to further craving of cocaine, creating the seemingly endless cycle of addiction.
 

The United Nations Office on Drug Crime (UNODC) released its 2009 Afghanistan Opium Survey. Many of the findings are promising and optimism is high, but so is the looming threat of an influx of cheap opium and heroin into the world markets due to illicit stockpiles and over-supply.
